Peter's Summer Adventure

The Missouri River is the longest river in the US at 2,500 miles,
beginning in the Rocky Mountains in southern Montana.
It first flows north for about 300 miles, and then southeast across the heartland.

Norm Miller, a fellow Kayaker, "had the pleasure to camp with Sipka on Saturday evening May 28th at Judith Landing."

Peter "looked good and tan and was enjoying his journey so far. He said he was making good time around 30 miles a day. We retreated to some shady cottonwood trees and had a few beers and talked more about my trip, his trip, paddling, wine, beer and music."

"Sipka was planning to depart Judith Landing about 9am on Sunday the 29th and try to make it to James Kipp Bridge that day which has a nice camping area and WATER!. He should easily make it but I told him not to rush that section since its really beautiful and he should check out some of the old abandon homesteads along the way. Once he leave James Kipp he will be nearing the western end of Ft. Peck Reservoir where he will have some challenges. I would expect he is there right now as I submit this. It can take a paddler about 5 days if the wind doest whip up to reach FT. Peck (town) but in REALITY it will more likely take 7 days. BUT the wind has been blowing in that area from the east for the last two days which is rare. This can really stir up the lake which could make him wind bound for more days. There are no access roads along the lake and no towns or farms etc. There is plenty of places to camp and wait out anything. He will be in good shape I have no doubt. He's got enough food to last even longer. My guess is he will arrive around Ft. Peck) about the 7th of June. There is NO phone service between where I saw him and Ft. Peck so don't expect any calls from him. He could make it sooner but why rush! Its really beautiful along there, plenty of elk and antelope and even the northern lights I would think. Keep in mind that it has taken other paddlers 20 days to get across the Lake. He will be fine.

Sipka said to say hi to everyone and all is going well.

Regards, Norm
